Patrol Officer Recognition Program: Defining Expectations
This week the Oak Brook Police Department launched its Patrol Officer Recognition Program. The program, which was developed by a committee of sworn officers from all ranks and billets, is a direct result of our Followership workshops.
The intent of the program is to define the expectations of the organization as they pertain to career development, to encourage the pursuit of those expectations and to recognize those that achieve them. Participation in the program is voluntary.
Patrol Officer 1st Class
Prerequisite Requirements:
- Successful completion of probationary period
- 4 years of law enforcement experience (certified peace officer)
- Above Standards Performance Appraisal during the evaluation period immediately preceding the rank in achievement
- Certification as Juvenile Officer, Breathalyzer Operator and CIT
- Submission and approval of the Patrol Officer 1st Class Résumé Form
Recognition for Achievement:
- 8 hours of compensatory time (one time award)
- Chevron
Senior Patrol Officer
Prerequisite Requirements:
- Successful completion of probationary period
- Patrol Officer 1st Class (meeting all prerequisite requirements)
- 6 years of law enforcement experience (certified peace officer)
- Above Standards Performance Appraisal during the evaluation period immediately preceding the rank in achievement.
- Two Above Standards Performance Appraisals with the Oak Brook Police Department
- Certified Instructor; or FTO; or Certified Specialty (minimum 32 hrs.)
- Submission and approval of the Senior Patrol Officer Résumé Form
Recognition for Achievement:
- 16 hours of compensatory time (one time award)
- Chevron w/ Diamond
Master Patrol Officer
Prerequisite Requirements:
- Senior Patrol Officer (meeting all prerequisite requirements)
- 8 years of law enforcement experience (certified peace officer)
- Above Standards Performance Appraisal during the evaluation period immediately preceding the rank in achievement
- Three Above Standards Performance Appraisals with the Oak Brook Police Department
- Completed 2 years of service as a Detective; or Support Services Officer; or Canine Handler; or Assistant Shift Commander; or served 2 years on a multi-jurisdictional task force
- Submission and approval of the Master Patrol Officer Résumé Form
Recognition for Achievement:
- 24 hours of compensatory time (one time award)
- Chevron w/ Star
- Name placed on Department Master Patrol Officer Plaque
