Patrick Mahomes’ NIL Deals Keep the Cash Flowing at Texas Tech

The Mahomes influence at Texas Tech just keeps growing! Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, has just announced a series of NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals with six standout athletes from his alma mater, Texas Tech. And with adidas recently stepping in as the official sponsor of the university, they’ve launched something pretty exciting: “Team Mahomes.”

This new initiative sees six athletes from different sports—football, softball, baseball, women’s soccer, women’s basketball, and men’s golf—joining Mahomes' adidas brand. Notable names include Micah Hudson, a top recruit in football history for the Red Raiders, and NiJaree Canady, a softball ace who transferred from Stanford with a deal reportedly over $1 million from the university’s Matador Club collective.

Rounding out “Team Mahomes” are Jasmine Shavers (women’s basketball), Matthew Comegys (men’s golf), TJ Pompey (baseball), and Sam Courtwright (women’s soccer). While the total amount for these deals hasn’t been disclosed yet, it's clear Mahomes is making a significant impact back home.

And that’s not all! Just a day before this announcement, Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, pledged an impressive $5 million toward the university’s $242 million stadium renovation project. Talk about giving back in a big way!

adidas officially became the apparel brand for Texas Tech on July 1st, and they’ve wasted no time making a splash. The university’s social media channels even featured a video unveiling the new adidas logo on the field, right next to Mahomes' signature "Gladiator" mark—a fun nod to Mahomes’ past, like when he covered up an Under Armour logo at a Texas Tech basketball game back in 2019.

Mahomes isn’t the only athlete bringing his sponsors back to where it all began. Blake Griffin brought Air Jordan to Oklahoma, James Harden has been repping adidas at Arizona State, and Stephen Curry helped Under Armour make its mark at Davidson. It’s great to see these athletes staying connected to their roots while helping to support the next generation!
