The Patreon Adventure

The Patreon Adventure

I am finally starting this Patreon adventure. If you have seen my book Flexible Visual Systems, you might have noticed that I have used the URL www.flexiblevisualsystems.info on all examples in the book, which shows you that THIS is in the making since long before publishing the book.

What is THIS?

You can only do a couple of big projects in your life. One big project came to an end when I published my book about systems in design, which compiles 10 years of research and 20 years of experience as a designer and teacher. I am still buzzing from the overwhelming support I received from the international design community.

I am ready for the next big project! Making the book was great. I love books, but they are also very expensive and very difficult to distribute. With Flexible Visual Systems, it was almost impossible to get distributed in the southern hemisphere, which is very disappointing for me because teaching at ELISAVA and KABK I got used to being in exchange with students from all over the world. I learned so much from them. Doing THIS is an opportunity to further develop my systems curriculum with my patrons!

What’s the first thing you can do?

Being my patron, you can access all the content on www.flexiblevisualsystems.info. There are two pages that are the most important ones for you, COURSES and RESOURCES.

RESOURCES

RESOURCES is a selection of (surprise) resources related to system design that will up your game. From reading recommendations to tools, images, objects, and videos, this page compiles my favorite resources, as well as articles I wrote. If you encounter something I should write about, please let me know.

If you are new to flexible visual system design, make sure you read my introduction in six parts:

  • What is a Visual Identity?
  • From designing the message to designing the language which formulates the message.
  • Logo ≠ Visual Identity
  • Why did FVI’s become popular?
  • Are Flexible Visual Identities really a new thing?
  • How do contemporary Flexible Visual Identities work?

Just go to the first article “What is a Visual Identity?”. The next button at the bottom of the article will take you to the next part.

If you would like to read other authors, I have two recommendations for now. Many will follow, but these two are my absolute favorites:

The Shapes of the Colors by Karl Gerstner and?

Semiology of Graphics by Jacques Bertin.

COURSES

The other page that is interesting for you is COURSES. It is divided into THEORY, SYSTEMS BASED ON FORM, and SYSTEMS BASED ON TRANSFORMATION, according to my FVS model. I will publish an article or a video or a combination of both explaining the model soonish.

At the moment there is only one course available, but this one teaches a superpower: The CAA Approach. Others are in preparation, but for now, just focus on this one. I will tell you more about it in my next post, which is going to be released next Saturday at 9 am CET.?

SO HAPPY YOU ARE ON BOARD! … and if you are not, sign up. ;) Even if it is just for 5€. The next posts are going to be only for my lovely patrons. :)?

Big hug,?Martin?

Martin, thank you very much for your significant and profound work! ?? Your considerable research and practical conclusions are changing the industry, shifting art directors', designers', and brand professionals' mindsets from static to flexible. You changed my mindset and showed me infinite opportunities and ways to express brands' character using flexible visual language. ??
