Patient Safety Works - An Overview

Patient Safety Works - An Overview

Today's article is a little overview of patient safety works and our products. Inspired by an email I sent to a potential client.

The first product is a spectacular piece of technology known as SensFloor?Care.

SensFloor?, a large-area sensor floor, which offers a wide range of applications in the areas of health care, retail, security and multimedia. Intelligent algorithms and self-learning systems extract significant activity profiles for ambient assisted living (AAL) and internet of things (IoT) applications.

SensFloor? was developed by Future-Shape GmbH which was founded in 2005 by Christl Lauterbach and is privately owned.

SensFloor? are sensors that are installed underneath the floor of your ward or home. They work off proximity sensors, in a similar way that your cellphone screen registers touch.

As a patient walks across the floor their movement is registered by the sensors and a message is relayed to the nurse terminal. Alerts can be easily configured as per the needs of the patient. For example Room exit or Bed in/out or Bath in/out.

SensFloor is discreet and reliable and has more benefits than I can put into one email or article, but I have added some links to articles I have written below which elaborate on some of the benefits.

Through activity tracking we solve common patient safety issues, namely:

  1. Monitoring high hazard zones; slip and fall areas as well as exit and entry.
  2. Fall Prevention
  3. Fall Detection

The Second product was the real game-changer for us at patient safety works. I found them at the beginning of 2020 and it really solidified our decision to shift our focus from just SensFloor to patient safety as a whole.

The products are known as the ELK or the Camel Inflatable Lifting cushion, developed by Mangar Health in the UK. Whom have been developing lifting solutions for over 40 years! Not only are the lifting cushions incredibly simple, lightweight and durable. But mangar is loaded with positive reviews and patient feedback.

After the EMS staff or Care Provider have run through the ISTUMBLE steps. The patient who has fallen can either shimmy or be rolled onto the deflated cushion and then the nurse/EMS person simply has to push a button and the chair inflates using a light portable battery. Which safely lifts the patient from the ground allowing them to easily rise to their feet or be moved into an ambulance/bed
