Alex: What potential do you feel patient engagement can bring from the promotion of improved health outcomes?
Julie: Patient engagement can significantly boost health outcomes. When patients are engaged, they’re more likelly to follow their treatment plans, attend follow-up appointments, and maintain healthy habits. This level of involvement means treatments are more effective, and patients experience better overall health. Furthermore, engaged patients can offer critical feedback that helps us improve care delivery and develop therapies that are more closely aligned with real-world needs.
Alex: For you, what role do you think patient engagement can play in driving improvements to health services and health outcomes?
Julie: By actively involving patients in their care, we gain a deeper understanding of their needs and preferences. This insight allows healthcare professionals to tailor treatments more precisely, enhancing the effectiveness of care. When patients are engaged, they are more likely to voice their concerns and suggestions, leading to continuous improvement in healthcare services and ultimately better health outcomes.
Alex: If you had a magic wand, what change would you make to how patient engagement is carried out by the industry?
Julie: I’d establish mechanisms for ongoing patient feedback to continuously improve patient engagement strategies. With regular survey, focus groups and direct communication channels where patients can share their concerns, preferences and suggestions.
Alex: What top tip do you have for pharma professionals working in patient engagement?
Julie: My top tip for pharma professionals in patient engagement is to truly listen with empathy. It’s essential to understand the patient’s perspective and create a safe space for them to share their experiences and insights. Don’t just hear what they say—actively listen and be prepared to adapt your approach based on their feedback.
