Patience that Pays Off

Patience that Pays Off

You've probably heard me share this story before but let me reiterate—I'm not exactly blessed with a green thumb. In fact, I'd go as far as to say I have a black thumb. During COVID, I attempted to nurture some succulents to keep myself busy, but alas, they met their demise. Suffice it to say, gardening isn't my forte.

Now, let's fast forward to 2023 when I was gifted two orchids by two dear friends. Orchids, I'm told, are notoriously difficult to care for. In the past, when my orchids stopped blooming, after a couple of months, I'd toss them out without much hope for their revival. However, this time around, I was determined to try a different approach to see if I could breathe new life into these beautiful plants.

So, I decided to change things up. I relocated the orchids to a different room, adjusted their sunlight exposure by placing them in front of a different window and adopted the practice of giving them three ice cubes per week—a tip I found repeated across various websites. I even set a reminder with Alexa to ensure I didn't forget to water them.

Now, nearly a year later, I'm ecstatic to report that my orchids are not only alive but also blooming once again. It's a delightful surprise and a testament to the power of perseverance and patience.

This whole experience got me thinking about our business growth efforts. Often, we find ourselves frustrated when our growth strategies fail to yield immediate results, much like my past experiences with orchids. But just like those plants, business growth requires consistent nurturing, even during periods when progress seems stagnant. It's about sticking with it, giving each tactic the time it needs to blossom.?

Sure, there's a time for pivoting and trying something new, but it's equally important to give each strategy enough time to mature. But the time can’t just be spent waiting, we have to monitor and measure efforts to make informed decisions.

So, don’t be like KHB of 2020 and discard progress without fully learning from what has (or has not) developed. Be like KHB of 2023. Approach your growth strategies with patience, persistence and—when needed—a willingness to adapt. With the right approach, care and attention, your business will bloom again.

Spot on, Katherine. I can grow plants but for everything else, I believe tenacity and patience move the needle.
