I speak on and help Global Leaders in High-Performing Industries Overcome Challenges that Derail Employee Engagement, Team Performance, and Innovation - Protecting Their Competitive Edge, Top Talent, and Bottom Line.
Growing up in a multicultural, multilingual, and multiracial family, I learned early on that culture, language, and community are the pillars of one’s identity. My upbringing taught me invaluable lessons about the importance of embracing cultural diversity and the power of humility, appreciation, and connectivity.
From navigating the traditions of my diverse and beautifully complex heritage to embracing the customs of others, I gained a deep appreciation for the richness of cultural differences. These experiences laid the groundwork for my journey as a MSID reforestation and environment volunteer in Ecuador and Peace Corps volunteer, where I had the privilege of living and working in communities in Togo, St. Lucia, and Jamaica.
As I immersed myself in these diverse cultures, I discovered the true essence of connection and understanding. Whether sharing meals with locals, learning traditional dances, or collaborating on community projects, each experience deepened my cultural intelligence and reinforced the importance of cross-cultural communication.
My journey continued as a CDC Global Health Public Health Advisor and community health communication specialist, where I traveled to countries around the world. Living and collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds, I witnessed firsthand the transformative power of cultural humility and respect.
Through these experiences, I've come to understand that cultural sensitivity isn't just a skill—it's a mindset. It's about approaching every interaction with curiosity, empathy, and a willingness to learn. It's about recognizing that our differences are our greatest strength and embracing them as opportunities for growth and connection.
In today's interconnected world, cultural sensitivity isn't just a nice-to-have—it's a must-have. It's about recognizing that diversity is our strength and embracing the myriad of perspectives that enrich our global community. From understanding different customs to valuing diverse viewpoints, cultural sensitivity lays the groundwork for meaningful connections and collaborations.
But it doesn't stop there. Cultural intelligence (CQ) takes it a step further, empowering individuals to navigate across cultural boundaries with ease. With CQ, we not only adapt but thrive in diverse environments, leveraging our understanding of cultural nuances to foster effective communication and collaboration.
Yet, true proficiency comes with cultural competence. It's about going beyond surface-level awareness to develop deep insights into diverse cultures. Armed with cultural competence, we can engage authentically and respectfully with people from all walks of life, bridging divides and building bridges.

Cross and intercultural communication play a pivotal role in this journey. It involves bridging language and cultural barriers to promote understanding and successful interactions among individuals from diverse backgrounds.
