Pathway to become an L & D Professional..

I am often asked about transitioning into Learning and Development from different career backgrounds. Entering or transitioning into a new career path requires a strategic approach that combines relevant skills, qualifications, practical experience and most importantly passion well directed actions.

So what is Learning and Development? (L&D) is a broad and encompassing field within human resources that focuses on fostering the growth, acquisition of skills, and continuous improvement of individuals within an organisation. The goal of L&D is to enhance the knowledge, capabilities, and performance of employees to contribute to both individual and organisational success.

In essence, Learning and Development involves strategic initiatives designed to facilitate learning, skill development, and personal and professional growth. These initiatives can encompass a variety of activities, including training programs, workshops, mentorship, e-learning, blended learning and other forms of educational interventions. L&D professionals collaborate with employees, managers, and organisational leaders to identify learning needs, design effective learning solutions, and evaluate the impact of these initiatives on individual and organisational performance.

It starts with self-assessment by identifying your current skills that are transferable to L&D, such as communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills. Importantly, a real passion for Learning and development is a the key enabler towards your transition in this field.
