Path To True Self

?

Is future a simple extension or a derivative of the past? Past is certain but the future is unlimited, so how can something that is certain and limited can be the foundation of the future that is unlimited and unborn??The very first moment of coming alive after the deep sleep this morning , ?this is the first thought with which I woke up . ?Before I could put my feet on the ground and get up, I was undoubtedly clear that past has no bearing on the present or the future, if we make a choice to let it not.

Can we really become free from the burdens, bruises and blames of our past ? I think we can. Every moment is new, every cell in our physical body gets continuously renewed and reborn yet the psychological imprint is persistent and prevailing. The mind , the intellect, the ego – the identities we assume are the source of this persistence that chains us to the past. We are not the mind that stores the memory, we are not the intellect that decides one thing today and changes tomorrow, we are not the ego that is constantly looking for gratification. We are not just any one of these.

However, they become our identity at a psychological level that defines who we think we are. With this myopic definition , the deeper exploration of the full self somehow becomes impossible and an illusion that I am the summation of all that that brings pride to me arises , so my ego becomes me .

?This ego is too limited a construct to encompass the full range of consciousness we come with and our identity as human beings. ?How do we access the full range of consciousness that we arrived with and how do we acknowledge our being beyond the material and access it through the wider window of the biological, psychological , relational, and spiritual spectrums of our being ?The invitation is to dis-identify ourselves from this limited definition of who we think we are and set out on a deeper exploration to find who we really are. ?When we can let go of what we are holding onto, there is more space to bring back the deeper , complete and true identity of self which we are all born with. What we are exploring here is a deeper meaning of our existence so unfortunately there are no quick fixes and short cuts.

?

It’s movement that emerges from stillness, it’s completeness that emerges from emptiness, it’s clarity that arises through letting go . And this journey starts with a simple question.

Who am I ???? Its such a simple yet immensely profound question to explore – When asked this question invariably many of us would respond with an answer of our titles and the jobs we do. Are we really our titles? What happens when we don’t have a title ? Who am I ?

Some of us respond with an answer that describes the roles we play in life, I am a mother , I am a wife, I am a sister.. Yet it is not a complete description of who am I ? Is it? . Some of us may respond with a skill we have, I am violinist, I am writer … yet it is an activity we do, a skill we possess , it is not an identity that captures our full being….

So back to the question Who am I ???

Finding an answer to the question that is beyond the titles we hold, roles we play, things we possess, tasks we do , fame we have earned is at the core of this discovery and liberation. The more we spend the time with our self, the self gets clarified and purified from false identity traps. With that clarity of knowing who you are not first , the awareness of who we are arrives slowly but surely. There are no short cuts to this discovery process. There is?no one road map , but there is a guide to this process, that is our own breath.

As we continue to hold the question without rushing to definitively answer it in the moment, clarity on who we are not emerges first – we are not the ego we believe we are , with that clarity ability to witness ourselves in action with no judgement arrives, then a ?deeper emergence of who we are starts to arise with time.

When this arrives, so will the freedom to flow without hesitation as there is a higher and a deeper understanding of the full range of our consciousness that defines our existence and provides the freedom from being equated to only our ego, mind or intellect. Then the individual experience is deeper and broader embracing the full spectrum of our being – when we arrive there, the only thing that is real is blissful joy.?

If I may add my own two cents to your insights, I remember someone challenging me by asking "Who are you outside of your story?" and as much as I felt shaken at that time, by now I know that this question made me deeply grounded ... Thank you for sharing ??

Hi Kamali, well written article. Kudos to you. We are busy with whatever we are. Everyone busy chasing something whole life but really do not know what and why. It looks like that you have begun the journey towards self actualization then nothing as mentioned like name, fame, talent, skill, wealth will not excite you anymore. All the very best to you and keep enlightening us by sharing your thoughts and wisdom.
