The path to net zero

The path to net zero

Inform your discussions and decisions this week: with around one quarter of global CO2 emissions coming from transport, sustainable solutions to help lower the sector’s footprint are critical to achieving net zero by 2050.

Greener transport can bring a range of economic, health and social benefits. But to get there will require technological innovation, expanded power grids and large-scale investment in electric-vehicle charging infrastructure.

In this issue, read how good intentions around clean mobility can be turned into action. Learn how Toronto has encouraged residents to use the city’s public transport network. In addition, watch Economist Impact’s conversation with Nissan’s chief sustainability officer, Joji Tagawa . You can also explore the relationship between transport systems and lung health. And as our guest blog lays out, it is a critical time to protect marine ecosystems.

Plus, catch up on our conversation with Skoda Auto’s chief executive, Klaus Zellmer , exclusively on The Sustainability Project.

Consumers are often motivated to reduce their carbon footprints from travel. But how can they and the businesses that serve them translate intentions into action?

Explore how big cities across Canada are providing open spaces and experiences for people to reconnect, reset and get ready for the future.

How can companies best contribute to climate action? Join us at Sustainability Week: Countdown to COP29 in Amsterdam on October 7th-8th to be a part of the debate.

Interesting event

We need to improve the facilities for the door to door experience, else the shift will not easy. Maybe Toronto/Canada is already well placed from that perspective. For climate change, the crucial aspects of any solution are the scale at which it can be and gets implemented, and the time we will take to achieve that scale. So, one country, one city, or unlimited time frame could turn out to be a drop in the ocean, while we need to handle a tsunami sometime in future.
