PATH CONVERGENCE
Path Convergence is where several parallel paths are linked with a single successor/predecessor and is also called "Merge Point"
There are two types of path convergence:
1- Merge Points : Where one activity has several parallel predecessor paths, for example, milestone activities.
2- Commencement Points : Where one activity has several parallel successor paths, for example, Masonry activities, as the completion of Masonry allows to start other finishing and MEP works.
Path Convergence should be a key management concern as it would be an obstacle to the project progress if overlooked.
Risk is multiplicative at these points, and the project planner should examine all preceding and succeeding paths for float availability; If there is no enough float, he should raise the issue with project team to find an alternative solutions to minimize the risk.
