Patdeezy.Com Newsletter #1

Hello,

If you’re reading this it’s because you subscribe to my mailing list which I greatly appreciate. I'm not going to spam you with a lot of emails but I will send one every week. Since this is the first email I think it would be good to give you some history on Patdeezy.com and also some plans for the future.

Patdeezy.com was started in 2014 in my studio apt on 307 north st. In Buffalo, NY. Prior to that I had and Idea to create my own websites and I attended the Art Institute of Atlanta to learn web design. While I did learn a lot of things at the Art Institute and meet a lot of people, the most important thing that I learned was that too get a job as a web designer you have to be very fast with your coding which I was not since I was only a beginner. I also learned about web hosting and how I could host my own websites and domains and sell this service to others. At that time a lot of people were interested in this service but I was so new to it I couldn’t take advantage of the Artistic community that I was immersed in.

Since I had already been to college at the University of Buffalo and graduated I didn’t qualify for more financial aid so my time at the Art Institute was over after 11 months. I returned home to Buffalo - 34 Bennett Village Terrace to be exact and was in a depressed state for a while and felt like I was a failure because everyone knew I went to Atlanta and would be asking me all these questions about why I was back. For a while I forgot about web design and being an artist and started working at random temp agency jobs just to have money. During that time I did start a website for Pastor Kenyatta Cobb so I will credit him with giving me my first check as a web designer. At AIA (Art Institute of Atlanta) I worked with professor Tim Dempski as part of a team and we were tasked with creating a website for a nonprofit. That would be my first overall experience and helped me realize that creating a website is a large undertaking that requires a team. I still thought I could do it by myself though.

Eventually we moved to South buffalo for a stint which led to me moving into my studio apartment in Allentown. While I was there I saw many entrepreneurs and small business owners in the area and this inspired me to have my own business. I went to the Erie County Clerk’s office and filed my DBA for Patdeezy Designs. This was a small step by it felt huge to me. During this time I worked on creating my own website and web hosting services as well as a personal blog website. I didn’t advertise this heavily but I really enjoyed doing it. I also took an 8 week business seminar through the SCORE program which helped me learn from and connect with other entrepreneurs and would-be small busines owners. I am still mad I didn’t get my certificate for completion due to missing one session because I had a cold. I may go back and redo the entire program because I really wanted that certificate.

Around this time is also when I created my logo. I almost forgot to tell you all about that lol. I had no idea really how to create a logo besides knowing that you needed to use illustrator and photoshop to do it. So I looked up a tutorial on YouTube and I made my own logo. It’s not the best logo but it’s what I wanted. I have had other people do logos for me in the future but I always hate them because I didn’t do it myself and its hard to tell them what I want exactly. So I will stick with this and now so many people have seen it I think it would be hard to change. Also the name Patdeezy came from my AOL screen name lol. I needed a name and I randomly created it.

When starting my web hosting service I registered as a web reseller at hostgator.com. At this time they were a tiny company that was growing. Now they are a large company based out of Houston and have several office buildings. This is getting to be a bit long, let me know if you made it to the end. I will make this into a part 1 for now. Thank you for reading! … To Be Continued
