Past Regrets, Future Fears (and Finding Peace)
He fell to his knees, hands clasped together, and spoke softly.
“Oh, my Beloved, wipe away my past Regrets and future Fears. Reset my clock, Death is near.
Forgive me for my failures and mistakes. They will remain forever on distant shores.
From this day forward I’ll do more, be more, serve more!”
A voice in his head responded.
“And how next time will you handle Regret and Fear — these twin bullies, these monsters, these fools and foes?”
He said without hesitation, “I’ll ignore them at first, but if I must, I’ll punch them in the nose.”
With that said, the man stood up with a sense of relief and considerable might — and he willfully and courageously got on with his life.
Regret and Fear are like schoolyard bullies. From personal experience, dealing with a schoolyard bully requires courage and fortitude. Sometimes it requires more than words to let ém know there are consequences for pushing you around.
It’s good to acknowledge regrets and prepare for future fears, but living with them is criminal and serves no productive purpose.
You may go through life being bullied, pushed and shoved around and wonder, “Why me?”
You may reflect on your past mistakes, embarrassments and failures and think to yourself, “Is this who I really am?”
The beauty of human nature is our resilience, our willpower, our courage. What other creatures, animals, beasts can lay claim to these qualities?
Don’t stress about designing a Time Machine to go back and fix things or waste precious time over the illusion of future fear.
Give it all you’ve got. Punch Regret and Fear in the nose if you must and get on with your life. Your clock has been reset.
