Interviews are set up for candidates to answer questions and the interviewer to ask them.
The dynamic is often predetermined like that, we play into and don’t question.?
Here’s something though:
Passive approach says “I answer the questions I’m asked. Nothing more, except for a few pre-prepared questions at the end.”
Meaning don’t think too much outside the box other than “trying to get these answers right, and if possible predict the questions you might be asked.”?
What most people don’t know is…?
A more Active approach is an option:
Active approach says:??
“I consider it my responsibility to understand where your bottlenecks are, what you need, and what your ideal outcomes are from the person in this role, and I’m here to discuss with you how I would approach delivering what you need using what I have to bring to the table in skill and influence.”
When I was doing consultation calls with potential clients.?

They would come to the call with a specific career related problem that they were hoping maybe I could help them solve.?
That’s the only reason they were showing up for the call.?
Same with interviewing: The interviewer believes that you can help them solve a problem (or a series of them in an ongoing fashion)?
that’s the only reason why they have called you for an interview!
?
The biggest mistake I made during my unsuccessful consulting calls was “trying to sell them” vs. The approach of let’s see if I understand your problem and let’s see if we can work together to solve it. If so, here's how we would proceed, cool??
That’s a big mindset mistake I see people making in interviews too - Taking the approach of “I have to try to convince them to see my value” Instead of: “Let’s see if I can fully understand what you need and I’ll share with you how I can approach helping you with meeting your goals!”?
The energy and the vibe is different, the feeling is different behind each approach.?
What’s your preferred approach: Passive, Active, or didn’t know you had a choice??

5 个月I personally interviews are a two-way thing. the interviewer is trying to see if the candidate is the best fit for them, so the candidate should also be trying to see if the company is the right fit for them.

5 个月The concept of an active approach is so much more useful. And as someone that is often the interviewer, I can say I would enjoy that type of conversation over a traditional interview anytime.
