A new social platform - what is Lemon8 and should we use it?
?You might’ve heard, but there’s a new social in town. Okay so it’s not really?new, but it is for the US and the UK.
Lemon8 was launched in Japan in 2020 and is?owned by ByteDance - yes, the mother company of TikTok.
It’s a lifestyle app which pushes content about travel, fashion, beauty, food, and wellness.
Basically, imagine that Pinterest, Instagram, blogs, and a sprinkle of Canva had a baby…welcome to Lemon8.
We know what you’re thinking…?another social media platform??We’ve barely cracked TikTok! Do we need to be on it?
Well, the jury’s still out. I created an account so you don’t have to (you’re welcome) and am gifting you my initial (and very chaotic) thoughts:
Lots of Lemon8 users seem to want a break from sponsored posts and links and instead?want to see content that isn’t focused on growth, but more focused on value.
This is exciting and definitely has the potential to be a powerful tool for small businesses and creators to connect with their communities.
Overall it’s too soon to say… but I REALLY hope that Lemon8 ends up being different from its social media brothers and sisters.
It would be super refreshing to have a place for value-led content which focuses on fostering an engaged and supportive community and isn’t taken over by sponsorships and LTK links ??
