I have been in the healthcare supply chain arena for over 19 years. I love healthcare so much that I am actually working on writing a book about it. I really started to notice how I hand picked employees from their amazing skills on their resumes. I interviewed them and trusted in their word and integrity. OR, they made one mistake or error and my trust for them was completely out the window.
At what point did an employee become an expense and not an asset. We hire them to come on board and help our company out right? We hire them to make things easier for us as management. We hire them to balance out our current department and increase our productivity. But all of a sudden, we don't trust them. Or we expect too much from them. Or we treat them poorly because we are having a bad day or week.
If we pooled together our assets in our employees and worked together as a team, we would accomplish so much more. If we made our workplace fun and joyful, we would increase our performance and productivity. If we decided to get our crap together and be a good leader, we would enjoy the benefits of profits.
A healthy environment inside an organization is difficult to create. It is called "Culture" and no matter what, it will create itself whether good or bad naturally if you let it. Many times, accepted behaviors just run wild inside an organization and pretty soon looking in the organization is not what you expected, it doesn't look the way you intended.
