Passion: How much is too much?

Passion: How much is too much?

The new season of the English Premier League football is only two weeks old and already Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho has caused controversy (surprise!). His pitch-side antics when his medical team rushed to attend to an injured player were extreme.

He then went on to publicly criticise his staff for the way they behaved.

Mourinho is effectively the COO of the footballing side of Chelsea. His employees and paying customers would have seen the outburst during the game and at the post-match press conference.

As leaders we all have to be passionate and show this passion but when is it too much and counter-productive?

Do employees think "I wonder when it will be my turn to be publicly castigated for doing my job?"

Wouldn't it have been better to make positive noises in public and review what happened behind the scenes with those involved?

How would you have handled this situation?
