Passion & How to Find It
“If you have passion for something or someone it is all consuming.” –Daryl Wizelman
I love and have deep passion for my wife and my children. I love every minute I spend with them. I think about them when I am not with them. I look for ways to give to them. They are my life! They are my “why” or my purpose for everything I do at work and at home.
I drive a Pro Formula Mazda open wheel Indy style race car for a hobby. I love every minute I am behind the wheel. I think about racing when I am not in the car. I look for ways to improve as a race car driver. The challenge of racing and improving lap by lap and turn by turn is an excellent metaphor for the improvements I am focused on at work and at home with my family. I am alone in the race car and improvement is 100% on my shoulders. The same is true at work and at home. I am looking for ways to improve my relationships and what I say and do within those relationships (Emotional Intelligence).
I recruit, lead and manage Loan Originators for my profession. I love people! I am a servant leader. I am focused on improving the lives and careers of the people I work with. It feels great when I can bring LO’s to Draper and Kramer Mortgage where they can achieve their goals and dreams. Every day I look for ways to improve in my role at work and how I can better serve the people I work with.
To me passion is when I invest my heart and soul into something and I pour into it without any end. Life is finite and we all have only so many days, months and years to live. What we do with the time that we have is crucial to our happiness and how fulfilled we feel. Who do we choose to spend our time with? What do we do to bring joy to our lives? We must take time to reflect on these questions and find the answers that bring us the full life we desire.
We are all “obligated” to do things that absorb our time and money. Is there any time and money left for us to give back to ourselves? I believe that in order to live an extraordinary life that we must find our passion(s) and spend as much time as possible enjoying the high that comes from these passions. If this means cutting back on expenses or going into debt, I am all for it! Life is short! Do what you love with the people you love before it is too late.
We all know people who have died young and/or who are ill and can’t do what they want to do. What are you waiting for? Today is your day!
Here are some thoughts about finding and executing your passion;
1. What do I love to do?
2. Why do I love to do it?
3. How can I make what I am passionate about a larger priority in my life?
4. Create a passion plan.
a. Map out your what, why and how of your passions.
b. Create action plans and the tasks needed to live your passion.
c. Execute the plan. Practice makes perfect.
d. Revisit the plan each year and revise it for your current needs. Passions change with time.
5. Teach others about what you have learned in order to help them find their passion(s).
My family, racing and my work are my passions. What are yours?
