“Passion drives my commitment to safety," says Kristine Irizarry, Ramp Agent

Kristine's journey with Unifi began in Charlotte as a ramp agent, but her passion for planes and the thrill of the tarmac started long before. "My cousin worked at the airport and it sounded fascinating, especially the ramp job. I've been captivated since day one."?

Yet, despite her years of experience, it hasn’t diminished her respect for the power of airplanes. Safety is non-negotiable for Kristine. "The ramp is no place to be careless and I don't want anyone to get hurt," she emphasizes.?

This focus on safety comes from a personal experience from her early years on the job in Fort Lauderdale where she saw a friend get injured. She never forgets the lesson learned that day. "Always pay attention to your surroundings,” says Kristine. “I never goof around on the ramp. I do what I'm supposed to do – I want to get home to my family."?

Kristine shares her stories and experiences with her colleagues. "Do not approach a plane when the engine is going, and always stay aware of your surroundings." She also makes sure her teammates have someone with them during loading and unloading operations because damaging an aircraft, even unintentionally, is easy.?

At Unifi, Kristine thrives in an environment that values passion, integrity, and empathy. She says she can spot those with a genuine love for aviation. "You can tell who has a real passion for this work. There's one girl I'm working with now, and she's eager to advance in her career. I just know she'll call me one day to say, 'Kristine, I made supervisor.'"?

Kristine also aims high, thanks to mentors and leaders who push her to go the extra mile. Her goal is to become a station manager, driven by her ambition and passion. "This is an industry where – if you don’t have the passion for it – then you shouldn’t do it because that passion is what ensures you do the job safely and correctly."
