Passing it On

Below is my message that I shared today with our Pearson colleagues around the world. I wanted to share it with our wider community, too.
Dear colleagues,
Over the weekend, I pass on the great privilege of leading this very special company to Andy Bird. As I do so, these are three things that I want to pass on to all of you.
An encouragement to continue to embrace change. It was Bob Dylan (sadly, not Bruce Springsteen) who wrote that she or he “not busy being born is busy dying”. Pearson has been busy being born for 176 years; long may that continue.
A profound thank you for all you’ve done for me, our company, and the educators and learners we serve every day. Brave, imaginative, decent, and accountable…that’s really not the half of it as we’ve seen again and again in these challenging times. I know that will long continue, too.
An enduring belief in the power of our purpose – to empower people to progress in their lives through learning – and the principles by which we bring it to life: by focusing on outcomes, affordability, and the experience.
Education, as Nelson Mandela taught us, really is the most powerful weapon with which to change the world. Please keep changing it for the better.
With love and best wishes,
John
Wish you best of luck with your new venture John. Under your leadership and vision I have enjoyed my work at Pearson and learnt a lot from you, especially about leadership.I never forget our joint visits to schools and universities in KSA and in the Levant..so many fond memories.. I also remember our meeting over a beer in a pub near Strand. I was to find out that what I had missed than was much smaller than what I was to gain. Many thanks for your priceless contribution to my career development and many other colleagues John. Take good care of your self.
