Passing of Joe McKenna

It is with sadness I learned of the passing of Joe McKenna (JF McKenna). Joe was a noted journalist who worked for publication like the Universe Bulletin and Industry Week, where he rose to an associate editor. He later went on to be an editor at a number of trade journals. He also worked in public relations for a short period of time. Joe moved from Cleveland to Pittsburgh a number of years ago, so that his wife Carol could be closer to her parents who were in need of their support. While Joe left Cleveland; Cleveland never left Joe. In his LinkedIn profile he wrote, “Clearly, story is story,” Jack Hart writes in his new book, Storycraft. “The same underlying principles apply regardless of where you tell your tale.” But, as I am sure Hart would agree, there is a difference between a teller of a story and a storyteller, just as there is a difference between a bugler and an artist with a trumpet.  Joe was a storyteller who will be missed by all who knew him, worked with him, or shared a story with him. I had the honor of being his roommate in College and a friend.
