Passed my PMP exam, you can do it too!
Abhijit Pandhari, Ph.D., PMP?
Residence Life Manager | Project Manager |
I am so happy to announce that I have passed the PMP exam and acquired the PMP Certification! It was such a journey and to be honest I really enjoyed the studying process. I devoted about one and half months to work on this and at the end, it all worked out!
Thank you, PMI, Chapters all my friends and especially my family who supported me!
Resources:
1) PMBOK guide (6th edition) – Electronic copy and hard copy, both.
I used electronic copy for quick references and hard copy for marking, writing notes and extra information.
2) I opted for Varun Anand’s full package on exam preparation. This package has video tutorials, slides, timed tests on every knowledge area and 4 full-length tests.

3) Opted for pmtraining for practicing tests.

4) Time to time guidance from Raj who passed this exam previously. He gave me perspective about the preparation.
5) YouTube- There is a lot of material available for free. I watched many videos to make sure my concepts are right.
Exam preparation:
Step 1. As per Varun’s training program, I read PMBOK guide for every knowledge area and took the tests from EDUHUBSPOT until I finished all the areas. While reading PMBOK guide, I made notes, highlights and markings. These notes and highlights helped me in later stages of revision.
Step- 2. Thoroughly read the PMBOK guide again.
Step -3. Took all the tests on each knowledge area from pmtraining.
Step -4. Took 4 tests on complete syllabus for the PMP Exam that are 1 hour long with 50 questions (from pmtraining) then took 1 full length test of 4 hr (from EDUHUBSPOT). I repeated this cycle until I finished all 4 full length tests.
Step -5. Went through the PMBOK guide again.
Some tips!
1) It is important to understand the concepts thoroughly. After reading every chapter, take some time off and think about what you just read. This time you will have more questions. Go back and clarify those from the resources you will opt for.
2) Practice! I went through about 2000 questions until I felt confident. There is also a difference between 1-hour exam and 4-hour exam! A full 4-hour exam is long and at the end one feels mentally fatigued. So, make sure you take full-length mock tests in order to prepare yourself to march through that.
On the Exam Day:
Take breaks whenever needed. I took one 5 min break after 150 min into the exam. After you finish the exam, make sure to thank everyone and CELEBRATE! Because you deserve it ??
