5 x Minutes Read for you and your Business - Pass the tissues…

Picture the scene.

A long black car pulls through iron wrought gates.

A gathering of people turn to watch.

The car draws closer.

The contents of the vehicle become clear:

it is full of flowers,

driven by two stern men wearing long black coats

and there is a long box right in the middle.

The car is a hearse.

Once the car is pulled to a stop the gathered loved ones watch the coffin be lifted and carried into the church.

Everyone proceeds in behind it, only two sounds are heard.

The hum of an old hymn on the organ and the gentle sob of the mourners near the front.

As the coffin is laid in the centre, a woman in a veil steps forward and places a photo of the deceased amidst the flowers.

She gives it a rub.

You gasp.

The photo is you.

Before you’ve had chance to work out what’s happening or what weird narrative style we must be in for you to be watching your own funeral, the vicar gets up to say a few words.

After a short prayer he says:

“In preparation for today I asked those who knew the deceased to share their greatest achievements for us all to remember. Here is what I received - you may need the tissues:

“Was great at getting the inbox to zero, every single day”

“Got a nice clock for the mantle piece after 60 years”

“Customer satisfaction was always above average”

“Was often humbled and thrilled in LinkedIn posts”

“Smashed KPIs in Q4 of 2024”

“Made OK PowerPoints”

A woman in the front row seized by grief throws her self on the coffin and shouts:

“I’ll never EVER forget your reply all emails”

End Scene

Question: What will your legacy be?

I was thinking last night about the concept of legacy.

I’m a specialist in helping people build Monthly Recurring Revenue streams.

Recurring revenue is magical.

But I don’t think I want my gravestone to say:

“Here lies Rice. He Brought in some cracking MRR”

When I think a bit deeper what I do actually do is I help people belong.

I never quite felt like I fit in as a kid and the offshoot is I am fanatical about belonging.

I love to bring people in from the outside, foster community and help you feel at home.

It's why my programmes are community-based.

We need each other.

As a trainee minister I know the power of congregation.

We are people who naturally congregate online or offline, around other people.

People we identify with

People that inspire us

or People who cast a vision for a new way to live.

That’s effectively what recurring revenue is - community building.

Whether you're an accountant, a PT, physiotherapist, coach, consultant or psychologist you have the power to build community.

You could certify others.

You could build a membership.

You could build a team of allies

You could build an advisory offer.

If we want to make it dry and beige we could call it:

- List building

- Networking

- Lead Gen

But deep down what you have the power to do is to create community.

I also believe you have a god given gift that the world needs.

You help people.

You transform society.

You build consistent cash flow.

You get the space to live and give like nobody else.

Build a Community of clients you love.

That’s what I help people do.

That will be my legacy.
