This month #TheStandardsShow was at the launch of #PAS5222 - a new #standard designed to protect the safety of children in out-of-school settings.
There's a lack of statutory guidance for organizations responsible for the care of children in activities that occur out-of-school. Activities such as sport, community service, arts, music, hobbies, and employment.
To help plug this gap,?#PAS5222 provides requirements on the governance, policies, processes, and procedures necessary for organizations to embed child safeguarding within their operations.
#PAS5222 was proposed by Mark Bramah MSc (Criminology and Criminal Justice) FCMI, a former Senior Police Detective with expertise in the investigation of child abuse. And it was developed through funding from Lady Edwina Grosvenor, a criminologist and prison philanthropist, who has dedicated her career to driving change within the Justice system.
At the launch event we spoke to both Mark and Edwina about their personal and professional journeys that led to the creation of #PAS5222. And to some of the others key players involved too - Dr Simon Fox - the standard's technical author - Fiona Scolding KC, Claire Dan from the Safeguarding and Child Protection Association and Victoria Snelling, who gave us a BSI perspective.
