When a vessel breaks down and needs a spare part urgently, you want the process to be handled efficiently and without delays. Receiving, clearing and delivery – that’s all there is to it. So why does it sometimes get complicated?
The right supplier
When handling the logistics of ships spares in Panama the supplier must know all the regulations that apply to the shipment. This includes knowing if special local permits are required, ensuring all the documentation are completed correctly and that the packaging of the part is compliant with regulations.
The right subcontractor
If the launch or crane operator your Panamanian agent subcontracts to does not have an effective preventative maintenance program, the delivery may get delayed due to last minute equipment issues. Incorrect information concerning the delivery of the spare part could be very detrimental. Without proper and complete documentation, the shipment could be subject to an import tax of up to 20% of the CIF value. With the right information, there is 0% tax.
