Kirstin with Cllr Stephen Dornan celebrating the launch of My Family is So Scottish

Partnerships

One of the biggest things I’m proud of this year is having my latest picture book celebrated and displayed across the entire subway network in Glasgow. It’s not just the fact that thousands of people travelling on the 125-year-old underground network got to see the amazing illustrations by Karen MacAllister. It was also the way in which Hilary Kidd and the team at SPT got behind our vision and supported us all the way.

And it started with a LinkedIn post…

Original post for the collaboration with My Family is So Scottish book

A year ago, I was planning my second book launch. If there was one thing I’d learned from my debut year as a published author, it was that you cannot do it by yourself. If someone else shares your vision and values, it amplifies them. Even better if that someone is a company. So, I posted this post on LinkedIn to see if my network could help.

It didn’t take long for my call to reach SPT Marketing Manager, Hilary Kidd. Hilary was looking for unique ways to celebrate the Glasgow Subway's 125th anniversary and once we had a chat about the purpose behind my book My Family is So Scottish, she was excited to collaborate.

'SPT were proud to partner with Kirstin on her book ‘My Family is So Scottish’. The synergy between Kirstin’s narrative and the Subway was undeniable and we are so proud that Subway could be a part of the story for its’ 125th?anniversary.’
Hilary Kidd, SPT Marketing Manager

Together with Karen we created this image of a subway carriage, which quickly became my favourite part of the book because it depicts joy, community and togetherness.

Throughout July 2022 this was shared across the Glasgow subway in posters on their stations, getting the attention of local Glaswegians, tourists and the drivers!

What’s my point here? If you’re looking for a great partnership, start with your values. Regardless of the company, if they share your values, you’re in for an incredible collaboration.

PS: If you’re part of a company who might be interested in a similar partnership, get in touch!
