In partnership with thousands of volunteers, the Microsoft TEALS Program reaches its 100,000th student with CS education

Technology Education and Learning Support (TEALS), a Microsoft Philanthropies Program, has empowered its 100,000th high school student with a computer science (CS) education. Since its start in 2009, TEALS has worked with corporate partners, nonprofit partners and volunteers to build sustainable computer science programs in high schools. TEALS focuses on serving students historically excluded from learning CS because of race, gender, or geography. This year alone, 1,700 TEALS volunteers are serving 14,000 students at over 550 high schools in eight countries including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Israel, Colombia and Kenya.

The TEALS Program gives high school students access to a CS education by pairing volunteers to team teach with classroom teachers.?Volunteers from the tech world bring their knowledge and expertise to help educators learn to teach computer science. TEALS volunteers have the flexibility to teach in-person or remotely which has helped the program expand to reach more students and schools in rural and urban communities.?

With the support of volunteers, TEALS creates an awareness that a career in CS is attainable and helps high school students to envision a future in the tech sector for themselves. Microsoft believes economic growth should be inclusive—for every person, organization, community, and country. This starts with increasing access to digital skills and opportunity and extends to closing the data divide and supporting public health.?

With a forecasted annual growth rate of 21 percent through 2031, jobs requiring CS skills hold a wealth of opportunities. Thanks to The TEALS Program, over 100,000 high school students have had a chance to learn CS and gain skills that can be applied in future careers. ?
