A Partnership For Seamless Continuity Of Care

When it comes to the care of preterm babies, ensuring the highest standards of clinical accuracy and patient safety is essential. That’s why Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (MKUH), in collaboration with inicio health, embarked on a mission to revolutionise neonatal care with digital transformation that places the needs of both patients and clinical teams at the centre.

Collaboration to address a need...

From the outset, this project focused on addressing a critical challenge: the complexity of managing hyperbilirubinemia in preterm infants, a condition that requires real-time data and swift intervention to prevent complications. With no fit-for-purpose digital solution on the market, frontline clinical teams at MKUH had to rely on cumbersome paper-based charts. These manual processes not only took up valuable clinical time but also increased the risk of delays in accessing vital information for the management of this condition.

Through a close partnership, MKUH and inicio health co-designed the hyperbilirubinemia inicioPage, a digital solution fully integrated into the hospital’s EHR system. This collaboration went beyond just technological development – it involved direct engagement with CCIOs, CIOs, and frontline clinical teams to ensure the product was not only clinically safe but also intuitive and responsive to the needs of its users. The engagement was key to building trust, with feedback and suggestions from clinicians being taken seriously and implemented swiftly into the build.

Innovation Backed by Trust and Responsiveness...

One of the hallmarks of this project’s success has been the collaboration and trust exhibited by this partnership. Clinical teams across MKUH were actively involved in every stage of the project, with inicio rapidly implementing changes and iterating the design to ensure it not only met the highest standard of care, but that the solution could be intuitively used to enhance the adoption. This approach built a foundation of trust, ensuring that the solution wasn’t an additional burden on clinical staff but an enabler of more efficient workflows and better patient outcomes.

As this partnership moves forward, MKUH and inicio health are paving the way for wider deployment of the inicioPage, extending its benefits to other organisations. This project represents a major step towards paperless, tech-enabled care – improving both patient outcomes and the day-to-day experience of clinical teams.

So what next...

Is your neonatal care ready for the next step? Working in partnership is fundamental to everything that we do at inicio health, so if you are curious about co-designed digital solutions, then let’s talk about your inicioPage needs (more info here), or check out the full story and video on our website (here).

This is a great example of how digital #innovation is a key part to improve health outcomes. Offering more accuracy in a timely manner improves preventative care, patient’s family communication and staff satisfaction. As a private community clinician who supports families in my capacity as a lactation consultant I look forward to seeing the positive tangible results.
