Partnering with Artists

Over American Artist Appreciation Month, we explored the stories and innovative works of artists who challenge norms and push boundaries. Their dedication to their craft not only enriches our experience, but also inspires us to think outside the box and embrace the power of art in our everyday lives. Revisit these remarkable features in this week’s roundup.

1. Maker, Muralist, Adventurer

Gretchen Leggitt , a muralist from the Northwest, says, "I feel most alive when [in] the saturated beauty of nature … I am obsessed with it all." Her approach to shapes and line work is inspired by Coast Salish art forms.

“I have a deep respect for the Indigenous cultures of these lands and have been enamored with their visual language for as long as I can remember.”

This inspiration is clearly visible her work, showing up in her colors, composition, and lines. Here's a look into her story, process, and one mural we had the pleasure of commissioning.

2. The Black Magic Deer

"We are rooted in art as our foundation, how we think, how we express, and how we connect." - House of Sorcery .

House of Sorcery, an art and design studio founded by three visionary artists, has spent over a decade challenging the status quo in commercial design. By weaving together diverse skills and perspectives, they've created a unique approach to their work.

We had the pleasure of collaborating with them on a project in the Pacific Northwest, where they created the Black Magic Deer. Illustrating their mission, the sculpture is adorned with intricate crocheted elements symbolizing nature and serves as a reminder that the magic of childhood wonder still exists.

Bring some fresh inspiration to your connections – share this post and let House of Sorcery spark creativity in your network.

3. Artistic Lighting Design: Custom Glass Art

Julie Conway , founder and glass artist of Illuminata Art Glass Design LLC., discovered her passion for glass blowing and lighting design during a three and a half year apprenticeship in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Today, her award-winning art is recognized globally for its captivating use of refraction and reflection. Julie emphasizes, “We must continue to find things that inspire us. The only way through is through. Feel the light. It is here for us.”

Julie is renowned for her collaboration with designers, engineers, and clients. Pictured is one such collaboration where we had the pleasure of working with her. These bespoke pieces are installed in a workplace for one of our confidential technology clients. Here's a closer look at how her glass artistry transforms light into an immersive experience.

4. Butterflies that Transformed a Community

Watie White is an artist who intertwines community engagement with personal transformation in his work. His installation at Boys Town Education Center in Boys Town, Nebraska, stands as a testament to this – capturing the essence of art as both a personal and collective experience.

Through a series of in-depth interviews with students, alumni, and staff, Watie created a stunning installation of 580 butterflies, each individually painted by members of the Boys Town community. Hidden caterpillars and chrysalises within the mural symbolize the ongoing journey of growth and transformation that we all experience.

Reflecting on the project, Watie shared, "I wanted to find an unexpected opportunity to recognize and honor the individuality of specific participants, and in doing so, they consistently seem to grow and transform over time."

Transformation is a core theme in Watie's art, whether in public spaces or his studio creations. His work encourages us to recognize and celebrate the beauty of change within ourselves and our communities. Explore Watie’s artistic journey and follow along here.
