Father – The Untold Story derived from the need to address the real issues associated with the long-term effects of growing up without having a father. The storyline is the voice of the 23.6% of US children (17.4 million) lived in father absent homes in 2014 ([US Census Bureau, 2015] Living arrangements of children under 18 years and marital status of parents, by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin and selected characteristics of the child for all children: 2014. Washington, D.C.: U.S. Census Bureau). As part of this stage play, we will be interviewing individuals who grew up fatherless and discuss their stories, and how this absence has affected them. This stage play will highlight a family that is headed by a woman who has four children, all with different fathers. It will showcase how she became a single parent and the dynamics of how she interacts with each of her offspring. LeeSadie Productions has taken the extra step to highlight how each character has been tainted in their life because of the lack of fatherly guidance and how the emotions of this void guides the decisions that they make in their present day lives. This play will cover issues such as, but inclusive to low self-esteem, manipulation, poor judgment, lack of acceptance for actions, low confidence, abuse (drug, sexual and verbal), masking the emotional wounds and how they lead to other issues, the growing concern of generational fatherless homes, the emasculating of the man, the thought process of being an “independent woman”, as well as the vision of what a father is versus what we have been told via media, bitter parent and the pictures created within one’s own minds. The goal of LeeSadie Productions is to be able to open the dialogue for such a taboo topic within our culture and begin a process of understanding the dynamics that caused such an epidemic but also to being the practice of addressing the issue and being the healing for those that are able to take that step. We look to take this stage play on at least a 12 city nation-wide tour, with possible interest in additional cities. The stage play will also open the door for a pilot series to be pitched to major networks as well as workshops and seminars to address the pain and nurture the healing.
