In school these days there are ribbons given out just for participating in a sport or a science fair or school function. I often wonder why schools do this… does it motivate the student to attend or does it do something for their self esteem?
Now as an adult if you just participate in your life’s work without layering on the ‘showing-up’ portion good luck in achieving your goals.
Showing-up goes beyond the job description, showing-up is doing something out of the ordinary for your client, showing-up is knowing why you chose to become whatever you are in business or life. No-one gives you a ribbon, or medal or certificate when you show-up…what YOU ARE GIVEN is RESPECT!
Everyday be the ‘present’ for the people you meet by wrapping yourself in ‘show’ and you will be rewarded by how your sales, client base and life experiences go UP!

3 年I love this article! Showing up as your True Authentic self is so important and just meet people where they are at:). Everyone is on their own journey and that's ok ??. Be kind, be compassionate and just listen:)

3 年100%!!! As an educator I focus on teaching my students about the importance of fully showing up and being actively present. When they just have to show up to get a prize it has no value for them and they miss the point that active participation leads to meaningful success.

3 年Great article Jeanette Y. Martin, when my kids were young and in sports everyone received a trophy of some kind. I could never understand why. It wasn't teaching the kids anything other then they got a prize just for being there. It never taught them about being a part of a team or respect for others....it's the same in business, some people show up to impress others. Show me what you're made of and why you are there in the first place...Thank you for the reminder..

3 年Great article. It is so important to show up today based on your values and what is mentally healthy for you. Too many people in the corporate world are showing up to impress, to get ahead etc. To me, showing up means being compassionate and authentic to what truly matters.
