Part of a Tradition - How Business Mindset MD offers tangible support to our fellow women physicians

I get excited every week to be able to share with you something I have seen going on in business or medicine, someone outside our community who has a unique perspective, something that I think will be relevant to you as a woman physician, leader, and business owners. I try to look to the outside world for wisdom that we can benefit from. But this week we need to turn our gaze in because Sharon, Priyanka and I have done something special for our Business Mindset MD community.

We pride ourselves on having something for everyone. With our Foundations Mastermind, if you don’t particularly need to work on your business structure or your emergency preparedness is top-notch, you can go back and work on your website SEO. You can delve deeper on mindset work, using our workbook to better explain to colleagues and investors why you do what you do, your “WHY.” ?With our free events, if you're not into the power of journaling, you might be interested in tax strategy.

We really felt called to do this same thing with our Business Mindset MD Program payment structure. As physicians we carry with us an erroneous belief that if we are good doctors, we will also have financial well-being. It’s not our fault that this fallacy has been perpetuated in our profession. Prosperity philosophies exist in lots of other professions, as well as within other belief systems. But through our lived experience, we know the truth: sometimes physicians go through lean times as well. ?

This is particularly true for women physicians, who care for our parents above us and our children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and mentees below us. And still, according to the most recent Doximity survey, while doing the lion's share of caretaking, we make an average of $110,000 less than our male physician counterparts, when holding constant hours, geography, training, and specialty. So, Priyanka, Sharon, and I made the Business Mindset MD program affordable. Not free - because we value ourselves and our time and we want to inspire you to value yourself and your time. But deeply affordable. And this year, we have extended this affordability to include a monthly payment plan.

I personally know the trials and tribulations of financial hard times. When I left surgery residency and moved across the country for a second time in two years to pursue anesthesiology, I was B-R-O-K-E - broke. It was only through the generosity of other women physicians that I was able to survive and thrive in New York City as someone with very few financial resources.

The women who were my teachers and mentors ordered extra food when we were on call so I would have leftovers on the weekends, took me out to get my nails done on my birthday, bought me countless glasses of wine, and paid for my plane ticket so I could go on a short term surgical mission trip. They also made sure I took advantage of opportunities like becoming research fellow (which came with a stipend) and becoming a book and journal editor, which opened up future opportunities. ?As a made-physician in private practice, even though I make a good salary and manage my money well, I also know the hardship of funding unpaid maternity leave, of pandemic-related job loss, and of a spouse’s burnout-related job loss.

Because of these experiences like these, we felt led to create a monthly payment plan so that even a woman who is going through financial hard times - which often happens during a professional transition - has an option to join our Business Mindset MD community. Sometimes it is in the times of greatest difficulty when you need the most support. Showing up for you in our newsletter every week, showing up for the women in our program every week, and offering our colleagues tangible options that expand what is possible in this moment - those are the best ways we know of to support you, our fellow women physicians. That's what the women before us did, and that's what we will continue doing for those who come behind us.

So if you are someone, or you know someone who needs a professional acceleration and business building community, come check us out! ?There’s something for everywoman.
