Be part of something bigger. Careers at the University of Sydney .
The University of Sydney’s Recruitment Operations team is home to a diverse range of passionate talent acquisition professionals. Striving to support each other to deliver an unparalleled candidate and stakeholder experience. We take pride in our role at the University and try to have fun along the way. Recently we caught up with one of our Recruitment Consultants, Esra Yavuzcehre , to gain an insight into what it’s like being part of the team and working for the University.
Higher education is something I’ve always been passionate about. Knowing I’m part of something bigger than myself and working within a community to support people doing wonderful and life-changing things is incredibly rewarding. The flexibility I’m able to access is added bonus too! I’m big on work-life balance as a perpetually busy millennial, and our hybrid way of working really encourages that.
2. Tell us about what you are currently working on?
Working as a Recruitment Consultant in the Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) team involves being constantly on the go! We are currently working on a number of projects with our stakeholders to help streamline processes and highlighting how rewarding the work is. It has been a monumental year for FMH. This year the University was awarded almost $40 million under the Australian Government’s Medical Research Future Fund. This fund aims to transform health and medical research and innovation, improve lives, build the economy, and contribute to health system sustainability – and that’s not including our other grants!
Outside of work, I am an avid explorer and gym junkie – it’s hard for me to sit still!
3. You have enjoyed success and promotion at the University. Can you tell us a little bit about your achievements?
Firstly, I would like to acknowledge that I work in a collaborative environment surrounded by a supportive team who encourage me to try new things, develop and grow. I would say my biggest achievement this year was being promoted from Recruitment Officer to Recruitment Consultant.

I’m also proud of the projects I’ve worked on this year. I’ve contributed to a number of process improvement projects, and I managed two back-to-back assessment centres for Education Support roles. The results for the assessment centres were amazing, we recruited almost 20 staff. This involved a lot of coordinating but it was incredibly rewarding to see the result, for our clients and candidates alike!
4. What piece of advice or encouragement would you give people hoping to work for the University.
The best advice I can give people is to be yourself! The university encourages diversity and inclusion, courage, and creativity. There are plenty of opportunities for growth and development, and you will get to meet and work with likeminded people.
