Creativity, the ability to generate novel and useful ideas, is the seed of innovation but unless it’s applied and scaled it’s still just an idea.

No single actor can solve today’s healthcare challenges alone. Innovation needs to be far more dynamic, nimble, and collaborative than in the past. It is all about working across silos and collaborating across the healthcare ecosystem, including startups, technology providers, research centres, hospitals, clinicians, and patients.?

If we define Open Innovation as innovating with partners, organisations have always practiced it by working closely with partners from their close networks: selected customers, suppliers, universities and research institutions. Once Open Innovation is adopted, the organisations boundaries become permeable and that allows combining the company resources with external co-operators. But random acts of innovation rarely pay off. For any initiative to deliver true value, the effort must clearly align with?all stakeholders business strategies.

Edison? Accelerator is a startup acceleration and healthcare provider collaboration program in EMEA designed by GE Healthcare in partnership with Wayra UK , Telefónica's Open Innovation Hub.

Launched in early 2021, Edison Accelerator is an ecosystem that enables digital health startups, scaleups and healthcare providers to collaborate and innovate, harnessing the benefits of GE Healthcare’s development environment and mentoring services to build on the value proposition of their own tools and applications. Edison Accelerator brings health tech startups, great data scientists, engineers and developers closely together with healthcare professionals, for advisory, guidance and clinical mentoring. The program’s healthcare provider partners can provide data for Artificial Intelligence development and offer opportunities to run pilots or proof of concepts when a prototype has been built.

The startups have the ability to build or integrate their solutions to GE Healthcare’s innovative Edison? Digital Health Platform . The platform is being designed to seamlessly aggregate data from multiple sources and vendors to enable clinical applications that support integrated care pathway management and holistic views of each patient.?The platform enables the capability to rapidly develop, host and deploy various applications and will ultimately give the startups access to GE Healthcare’s clients.?GE Healthcare, as a leading global medical technology, pharmaceutical diagnostics, and digital solutions innovator, has a global footprint and with operations in more than 160 countries supports on market launch and commercialization.
