“My energy?” Darko asked with an amused twinkle in his eye. “Don’t tell me you believe in that stuff.”

Dr. Soul smirked as if she knew something he didn’t.

“Everything that happens in this universe is dictated by energy. Good energy, bad energy, even neutral energy. Any event that happens in life, whether it’s something as small as an ant picking up a crumb or as big as someone dying, carries a certain charge. The energy you put out attracts a certain charge in return; like attracts like. If you learn to control the energy you emit, you can attract better things and create a better life for yourself.”

Darko kept his entertained and skeptical grin plastered on his face as he listened to the doctor’s explanation.

“Your accident — that was a great negative event, one you likely attracted yourself.”

Darko’s face fell. “So you’re saying what happened to me is my own fault?”

Dr. Soul nodded. “It’s very rare that the universe punishes someone without cause. The magnitude of the negative energy you encountered was only energy being returned to you. That means it was most certainly brought on by persistent and long-term negative output.”

“I don’t have any negative output; I was a happy guy until this happened,” he said with a frown.

“I urge you to reflect on that and decide whether that’s true,” she advised. “You’re telling me you didn’t spend years feeling anguish about your future? Or jealousy over your friends’ life paths? Or despair over the prospects of your recovery?”

Darko was silenced by her astute observations.
