Among the gorillas of the mist-shrouded mountains

Best suited for: Those who want to come face-to-face with a great ape, and who are also interested in nature and culture. Rwanda is located in the green, hilly heart of Africa, and it was here in the Rift Valley that the first human ancestors, believed to be Homo sapiens' forebears, were discovered. This is our cradle.

Wildlife you’re most likely to see: The unique mountain gorillas, forest elephants, buffaloes, leopards, many bird species, and the endangered golden monkey.

Best time to visit: Gorilla tracking can be done year-round, but the driest periods are December to February and June to September.

Don't miss: Dian Fossey’s grave, the scenic Lake Kivu, the Nyungwe Rainforest, and trekking among the tea plantations. Also, explore the capital Kigali and visit the museum dedicated to the 1994 genocide.?
