The existence of human race has witnessed various significant transitions and transformations caused by constant changes in things, information and technology advancements. Obviously, the Prehistoric era was the foundational stage of human race but with fast pace of society heavily driven by information and technology(IT), a lot of systems have been reshaped and redefined; with much consequences on human development, economy, industry, politics, society and other sectors. However, the trend in the generational phases of systems of things: 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G., is indicative of the fact that human race is multi-tasked and faced with an era in which modern gadgets function in a well coordinated protocol. Probably, this is the smart phase ! It is an era of 21st century when modern devices operate smartly and produce the desired results without delay. The manner in which modern technologies exhibit smartness in the execution certain projects shows that we, the handlers of such devices , have to become smarter in using them. They include: the smart phones/smart watches, smart cars, smart TVs., CCTVs and GPRS (GPS).
Smart Phones/ Smart Watches- function like a small computer which run on a mobile operation system(OS). They have fine media player, digital lens cameras, video cameras, GPS etc. The OS of smartphones enable them to perform enhanced functions like run applications, access web pages, surf web on 3G, 4G and 5G data subscriptions respectively. Also, they have in-built technologies: Bluetooth for send and exchange of email accounts synchronization, Wi-Fi inter-connectivity with mobile broadband for near field communication. Other features that smartphones have are to view, edit and share documents, download files, create and play musics, take photos and record videos, play games and watch movies, and chat through texts and video calls. In similitude, smartwatches exhibit same features and functions in certain areas. Meanwhile, both have high resolution touch screens, multi-touch interface and QWERTY keyboard powered by Android, Microsoft's OS, Apple`s IOS, BlackBerry OS and Nokia Symbian. There are a host of built-in apps for other basic functions.
The Smart TVs- These devices share a very close similarity with smartphones. They function basically on internet enabled facility and offer so many services in much the same way like a computer. Besides malfunction of email and word processor, they feature other properties such as Web Browsing, YouTube, Social Media, Games, Skype, Slide shows, apps etc. The range of such TVs is from smart TVs, LED TV., HDTV., UH D, HDR TVs . They have exceptional picture quality and superior sound output .
The Smart Cars- The term smart is a coinage from 'Swatch Mercedes Art'. It was generically manufactured to solve heavy fuel consumption and address the parking space problems. It is usually meant for two or four passengers depending on the model. It is light-weighted with dimensions as thus: 9ft long, 5ft height and 5ft wide respectively. It uses gas mileage which depends on the design and engine horse power, and can run 60 miles per hour in just seconds. Its body is made of plastics which can be recycled. The car is programmed in such a way to drive with optimal function capacity and expends less energy which makes it efficient. Such cars can be recharged and battery-powered by electric smart components which allow for smooth cruise.
The CCTV - CCTV stands for Closed Circuit Television. It is a modern gadget that uses video cameras to access the internal and external areas of a compound. It functions by the application of electromagnetic radiation(EMR) and transmits the images of the objects/bodies as signal to a set of monitors for electronic interpretations as sources of information. The benefits of installing CCTVs on a property cannot be overemphasized and can be seen in the way the Police, Army, Government Agencies, Public and Private Sectors embrace the security technology. With the security gadget installed, it guarantees counter crime, enhance home insurance rates, assures peace of mind and, is cost effective. Owing to its effectiveness, simplicity and readily understandable features, it is a technology every home should have for security purposes.
GPS/GPRS - This is the short form of "Global Positioning System" or "Global Positioning Remote System". It is a navigation system that uses the satellites , a receiver and computer algorithm to determine location, velocity and time of travel of objects in various media:land, sea and air. Thus, there are 24 satellites that make up a constellation of satellite system placed in 6 Earth-centered axial planes. Each plane however, has 4 satellites which orbit at a distance of 13000 miles(20000km) above the earth, and move with the velocity of 8700 mph (14000km/hr). Three out of these four satellites, are required to determine a location on the earth`s surface whereas, the fourth one is used to access information from the other three and help in the calculation of the elevation of an object. Therefore, a GPS technology has three most vital segments: space, ground control and user device. (A). Space - consists of the satellites which orbit around the earth and send signals to the user on a particular location and period of the day. (B). Ground Control- has three sub-segments : the earth based monitor station, master control monitor and antenna. The activities of these devices are to track and evaluate transmission of signals. (C). User Device- includes the transmitter and receiver devices. Also, smart devices like smartphones, wrist watches are most times used as navigation devices.
In summary, the GPS/GPRS functions by the application of a technique referred to as a trilateration. This technique calculates an object`s location, velocity and elevation by the collection of signals from satellites to a location where the output information is analyzed. Note that this technique is different from triangulation which is used to measure angles, and not distances. However, these modern devices have a way of modelling the behaviour of a child. For instance, a child born in this 21st century times is likely to exhibit certain smart tendencies which can be reflected in the child`s ability to interpret, apply and design things. Most times, such children have high intelligence quotients and skillful in handling modern gadgets like smartphones, video games, create apps etc that the adults are not able to do. We are living in a smart phase!!!
