Part 4: A general business broker is not a synonym for a business valuation professional whom is an expert in agency valuation + transaction advisory.

Part 4: A general business broker is not a synonym for a business valuation professional whom is an expert in agency valuation + transaction advisory.

Many business brokers come from a pure sales background and have zero background in insurance agency M&A, insurance agency investment banking, insurance agency business valuation, or any background at all in terms of providing valuation or transaction advisory services to insurance agencies/brokerages; and also oftentimes do not possess a financial background, financial business education, experience, expertise, qualifications or professional certifications in insurance agency business valuation or insurance agency transaction advisory.? Anyone can become a general “business broker” as there are low barriers to entry; and these barriers vary among U.S. states.?

Many business brokers have zero understanding of the unique niche market of insurance agency valuation and M&A; which is distinctly different from that of any other M&A market and any other type of business valuation.? Insurance agency M&A and agency valuation requires deep knowledge and understanding of the unique market for selling/acquiring an insurance agency; which is quite complex and involves the critical importance of needing to fully understand a great deal of industry specific financial information, carrier reports, producer reports, agency reporting systems, peculiar legal issues, agency financial reporting/requirements, agency due diligence, agency valuation, and unique transaction terms and deal structuring, etc.
