PART 2 ….. Why are hamburgers unhealthy if they are made of vegetables and pure meat?
?How could we turn them into healthy food?
?
I asked myself and other people the same question and didn’t find a proper answer.
?How come the pasta and meatballs is considered a healthy dish and burger, which is conceptually the same thing, is not?
Because if you think about it, a burger is just a dough, grinded meat and some vegetables with sauces. And pasta with meatballs is pasta dough, grinded meat and also some vegetables, if it’s in the tomato sauce.
I think fast food has such a bad reputation because of the fries or other dishes that are made with a lot of grease. Hence those items have too many calories in them.
Or maybe it’s because burgers are very tasty and it’s hard to not overeat them
?
Most hamburger buns are a sweet brioche, higher in sugar than other buns. Put the burger on a kaiser or scotch bap and the calorie count of the bun drops.
The burger is often made with very fatty beef.
This means good flavour and a juicy patty, but a higher calorie count than one made with leaner meat.
?On the other hand, the leaner meat is less flavourful and most chains just add salt. They add salt to the fattier burger too.
?Adding herbs and spices would change that but salt works and is cheap.
Why are meat, lettuce, tomato, cheese, onion, and bread healthy? But a burger isn’t?

Thank you?….A single burger is perfectly fine. Especially if you substitute the fries with a salad and drink water or a beer instead of a soda. The problems with burgers are twofold, though.
In first place, people eat them in fast food. The meat is usually a sorry thing, part of it substituted by reclaimed stuff, the cheese is also a reconstituted slice, the bread has more sugar than a piece of chocolate, and the vegetables are more of a suggestion than a fact.
?In other words the quality is pitiful.
Plus the whole thing is served with dubious fries and a soda. It turns out being a caloric bomb meal that is void of nutrition, but also leaves you famished for more food.
Secondly, people do not eat this kind of meal once or twice a month. A lot of people eat like this several times a week.
Even a fast food meal would still be ok once a month, but more often than that means usually too many calories, too much sugar, not enough fibers, not enough vitamins. In other words an unbalanced diet.
Red meat has a lot of cholesterol. Sure, but most of the cholesterol floating around your body is cholesterol your own body makes. High cholesterol is mostly genetic more than diet for the vast majority of people.
Burgers are a source of sodium. True but the amount of sodium in a burger is not dangerous.
Unless you have reduced kidney function, your kidneys are pretty good at getting rid of that sodium. This is especially true for people that have normal blood pressure. Low sodium is more commonly a problem than high sodium.
Burgers have a lot of fat.
I guess you could say they do have a significant source of fat, but again, fat is not nearly as bad for you as sugar, especially if it’s natural fat that’s not partially hydrogenated.
Fat is very good at satiating you so you’re not continuously hungry. Whenever I eat foods my wife forces herself to eat like salads or veggie chips or whatever it is not satiating whatsoever.
Do you want to add a word or two ?
I don't regard burger eating as unhealthy. Also, I didn't know you had to eat 12oz of French fries with a burger.
Who ever thought that anyway?
I admit to begging a few French fries from my companions at the table occasionally, but i don't order them.
I've been eating burgers since I was a kid, I'm 80, I still eat them, and I'm still breathing. I don't even take even one pill, but by some people's reckoning I should have been dead by now from eating all those hamburgers.
Where do you go to eat your burgers?
Where I live I can get a wholesome and delicious burgers at a number of places; they cost more, but it's real food. Or I can go to a fast food place and get a grease bomb, that's so over processed it's inert.
?The real problem with all fast food is that it's over processed. if you eat out at those places you're going to be going down the tubes as far as your health is concerned very fast; no matter what you order and it has much less to do with calories, carbs, etc. then you might think.
But you shouldn't necessarily grab your go-to Bud Light if you're going to be chowing down on a gourmet burger.
There are even “veggie” burgers out there that contain no meat and are quite healthy to boot.
?I will admit, when they first developed them, they were a bit unappetizing.
The newer ones, though, are delicious and can sometimes not able to be told apart from meat burgers.
Everyone enjoys a good burger once in a while.
The key to being able to eat the things you love and still maintain your health is moderation.
?I primarily eat healthy foods.
I will, once in a great while like maybe once a month allow myself a splurge day where I will get that triple cheeseburger.
?I will thoroughly enjoy it knowing that I will eat healthy again for the next month.
Your comments ……
?
A burger, once in a while, is not a bad thing. A burger for lunch and dinner, 7 times a week, will have dire consequence on your health. It’s all a matter of choice.
?
Hamburgers aren't terribly unhealthy. Saturated animal fats aren't quite as bad as people make them out to be. But some considerations;
The carnitine in beef may be metabolized by gut bacteria into harmful chemicals.
Does Carnitine Really Cause Heart Disease?
Burnt/charred food is unhealthy. So grilled food is going to be unhealthier than fresh or boiled food.
Ideally, you wouldn't let your food ever dry out when you cook it. But the results of the browning reaction are very tasty, even if they aren't the best for us.
? ?Hamburgers tend to use worse cuts of meat, ground up and chemically treated. While the processing kills bacteria, it doesn't destroy the endotoxins the bacteria might have produced, which can trigger an inflammatory response.
This issue can be reduced by using steak rather than ground beef, and grinding the cuts of meat immediately before using them to reduce the surface area that bacteria are exposed to.
?Grass fed beef will have higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which helps reduce inflammation.
It may also have higher levels of K2, which is cardio protective.
This is compared to the more common grain fed beef which is higher fat.
There are strong opinions on which tastes better, and people tend to divide into camps here.
The bun and fries that go with the burger tend to be unhealthy and that's a very fair response.
?In a more social sense, any farmed meat will likely be exposed to large quantities of antibiotics.
Antibiotic resistance is an increasingly lethal problem though not nessicarily for the person eating the burger in particular.

2 周Even with a veg patty, the bun feels heavier than pasta. But these pictures look so appetizing.

2 周Hands up if burgers are on your radar this week or, let’s be honest, every week. Whether you like them grilled, pan-fried or broiled — and made from beef, chicken, fish or veggies — they’re an everyday luxury everyone can get behind. Just pick your patty, grab a bun and plop on all the toppings. Go on, get creative. ?And while you’re at it, why not pair that mouth-watering masterpiece with the ideal brew? These matchups will bring out the best in your burger, whether you like it classic or with the works. If there's anything that goes great with a burger, it's a beer. ?But you shouldn't necessarily grab your go-to Bud Light if you're going to be chowing down on a gourmet burger. And when you think about it, shouldn't a south-of-the-border quesadilla burger be accompanied by a south-of-the-border Mexican beer?
