Part 2
The Gift that won a record!

Part 2

So off we went. Two days later, a Shift Manager approached me and said " Mr. Marshall, we made 10,000 units on my shift yesterday."Not 15,000, but a good start!

??"How can I reward this performance?"

  • Create an Award Ceremony.
  • Present the participants with Gift baskets.

??"But what should I include in the basket?"

The closest spirit to 10 is...... 12-year-old Rare Casks Appleton Estate Rum! World-renowned for its delicate balance, enjoyed straight or on the rocks. "A blend of rare hand-selected Pot Still and Column Still rums".

  • Next, include colleagues from the HR department.
  • Take pictures for the Company newsletter.

With the assistance of my HR colleagues, we presented the Shift Manager and Pot Still Operator with 12-year-old Rare Cask Appleton Estate Rum gift baskets. The award ceremony was held on the production floor. Lots of pictures. Beautiful!??

The next day a different Shift Manager walked up to me and said with a smile "We did 11,000 units on my shift last night!"

?Still Not 15,000, but we are improving. So once again, I got my HR colleague to prepare two 12-year-old Rare Cask Appleton Estate Rum gift baskets.

This time I thought, “How do I?get the Distillery Team more involved? How do I increase engagement from the Pot Still Team?"

  • By spending more time on the Production floor, and listening to the concerns. At least 4 times per day, including Sundays.
  • By giving support to any concern within my power.
  • By letting the Distillery Manager do the award presentations.

So off I marched to the Distillery Manager's office balancing a gift basket in each hand. When I knocked on the door, there was a meeting in session with team members from the Shipping Department. As I entered the room, one of the attendants asked: " Wi wa gifts too?" I turned to him and replied in my best Jamaican patois “Mi nuh kno ow yuh a guh get one of dem yah! Mi ongle woking wid?Pot Still." (Please pardon my patois).

???"Yes, you have a question?"

" Ok, Gregg, I am intrigued to know the result of the competition."

??Oh, ok.

- First, daily performance increased by 100%.

- Quality was consistent within requirement standards.

- By the second month, we made a record performance for the Pot Still Marque. This included the stellar performance of the Shipping team.?Senior Management recognized the performance by presenting 12-year-old Rare Cask Appleton Estate Rum gift baskets to all the contributing departments.

I got one too. Cheers??!
