I am giving a slight twist to the Tuckman's group development model and making it marketing relevant and including steps beyond team members.
Forming (0-2 months):
In the forming stage, the team members get to know each other and their roles and responsibilities. I am extending the discussion further by highlighting the crucial steps in marketing and explaining how they can be effectively managed during the forming stage.
Team Alignment: Initial team building, role definitions, establishing trust.
Product-Market Fit: Preliminary market research, understanding product positioning.
Tools Implementation: Identifying necessary tools, initial setup.
Process Setup: Basic process definitions, initial workflows.
Performance Metrics: Setting up basic KPIs and tracking mechanisms.
Challenges Managers and C-Suite Executives Face:
Remember, marketing is unique compared to other teams. Take sales, for example—the skillset required is straightforward: selling.
However, marketing is a multifaceted profession that encompasses various skills, from design and development to content creation and performance marketing.
Bringing these diverse talents together and building cohesion can be challenging, but doing it right is crucial for achieving your marketing goals.
P.S: These principles aren't just for building new teams; they can also be revisited and applied to already existing teams.
