Part 2: The Benefits of Working With Managed Service Providers

In Part 1 (https://lnkd.in/gZ8stc5d), we clarified the differences between the two types of outsourcing IT services provided by Managed Service providers (MSPs), which are third-party companies that take on the responsibility for maintaining and anticipating the need for a range of IT functions and solutions as well as all hiring processes on behalf of their client, and Haken Contracting and the upward trend for MSPs.?We will now explore why they are more favored when enterprises seek IT solutions for their businesses and how it benefits them.

The most significant single benefit of an MSP is that once selected, the managed services organization will be entirely responsible for selecting, onboarding, and managing the employment of all resources assigned. This means there is no more working with multiple recruiters, reviewing dozens of resumes, scheduling interviews, creating contracts, handling onboarding, direct management, vacation approvals, etc., only to have contractors leave and start the same process all over again.

As an IT manager, you need to get the work done and will likely prefer not to manage the entire process and resources from beginning to end. Simply sign a Statement of Work (SOW), and let the MSP take it from there with resources appropriate to fulfill the requirements of the SOW. All communications can be routed to a single point of contact, the MSP’s Service Delivery Manager, rather than multiple individuals, all representing different aspects of the work. By partnering with an MSP, not only do they possess the qualified resources, but are trained, experienced, and certified to ensure that you’ll have the support you need to face the IT challenges as you grow.

Without the need to treat the requirements of the SOW as headcount, you can effectively bring on resources exactly when needed and choose to upscale or downsize the SOW as your needs adjust at the appropriate time. Clients can speak with the intended resources beforehand to ensure that both sides have a solid understanding of the work to be delivered before signing a new SOW. This allows the MSP to appropriately tailor the duties included in the SOW and ensure that what will be provided aligns with the client’s expectations.

When choosing a Managed Services organization to partner with, the effort is more focused on the organization’s track record and less on a one-off contractor’s abilities, which would need to be repeated over and over per engagement. A proper MSP partner will be able to demonstrate technical abilities at the forefront of the industry and deliver against the client’s needs, with businesses gaining access to new skilled resources.

With this in mind, what would it mean to work for a MSP? What benefits could employees see when represented by a single employer? We will complete our look at MSPs in the final part of our 3-part series.
