A Park Champion will leave Congress

Bidding farewell to a true Park Champion in the U.S. Congress! U.S. Representative John Yarmuth, who has represented Kentucky's 3rd Congressional District (Louisville) since 2007, will be retiring from Congress on January 3, 2023.

Congressman Yarmuth is a staunch advocate for parks, recreation and environmental conservation/education. Rep. Yarmuth's advocacy for permanent, full and dedicated funding for the Land & Water Conservation Fund Act enables urban park systems like Louisville Parks & Recreation to provide more equitable access to parks and recreation opportunities for metro area residents.

Congressman Yarmuth's sponsorship of the No Child Left Inside Act has resulted in opportunities for parks and recreation agencies to partner with public schools to provide environmental education programming in an outdoor classroom e.g. a local park.

In his final year of service in the U.S. Congress, Rep. Yarmuth will continue working to improve the health and wellness and quality of life for people of all ages and abilities in Louisville, the Commonwealth of Kentucky and across the U.S.

U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth (l) with No Child Left Inside author Richard Louv (c) and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer (r) with Sophie Summer Bates , who is an advocate for parks and outdoor education
