How do you plug a huge revenue gap? Southwest Airlines has the answer - by finally charging for advanced seat assignment with a potentially huge revenue injection - 230 million seats per annum, assume 20% uptake and US10 a seat - that’s US460 million for doing nothing!!

John was live on CNBC discussing the #ParisOlympics. Expectations are for 42% fewer visitors to the city from the Middle East and 30% fewer from Oceania this month - a huge revenue loss for the city. Still day trippers from Europe will be up. People are surprised that big global events do not increase visitors, they never have!

Airbus Aircraft is saved by flynas at #Farnborough! Literally a last-minute order from #FlyNAS filled the Airbus order book at a very quiet show, and it’s only a MOU - good PR for all, but no firm commitments from the Saudi low-cost carrier. “Just” 286 orders at last week’s event makes for the lowest total for decades. Are airlines already stuffed with orders, has room on the production lines filled or are we finally seeing a market slowdown?

And finally, shareholders can be brutal. Ryanair - Europe's Favourite Airline ’s latest results disappoint the market and one particular shareholder a 15% drop on the share price at the beginning of last week, now trading at 15 Euro’s they are some way from holding at 21 Euro’s for twenty-eight consecutive days! easyJet meanwhile exceeds expectations and see a 6% bounce on stocks. This week #IAG announce its results which should make for an interesting read on Friday.
