Considered one of the greatest museums in the world, with a vast collection of Master Impressionist paintings as well as other 19th- and 20th-century works of art, this Paris museum is planning a massive renovation due to the generosity of an anonymous donor. With a new design on the horizon, visitors can expect the entire 19th century building turned into public space allowing the museum to showcase many more of its art collections, which includes the biggest collection of Impression in the world. A new wing will hold 13,000 square feet of impressionist and post-impressionist works. Hard to believe that the building which was at one time a train station, is now a monumental home to the works of artists such as Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, and Manet. The fourth floor of galleries will also be converted into an educational center where families and children can take art lessons. The new undertakings is called “Orsay Wide Open” and will be completed in two phases: the first (the educational center) by 2024, and the second (the new wing) by 2026. When completed, it will mark the first time in history that the entire Beaux-Arts-style building has been open to the public since the former train station’s reconfiguration as a museum.
