Pari joins Google!

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It gives me immense joy to share I joined Google :)

I am currently serving as a Program Manager in the Research Operations team, a part of User Experience Infrastructure department at Google. I am grateful to continue in the User Research field. I am excited to be in a position to empower UX studies across the world, at Google scale!

My Journey with Google

My interactions with Googlers began in June 2017 when I was invited as a panelist by Women Tech Makers group to the Bangalore office. Apparently, I was recommended by one of my linked in blog readers who works at Google.

In 2018, I was approached again by Google, this time as a nominee to Google Developers Experts Program. I was thrilled and took it up as a challenge. 2 months and 3 technical rounds later, I was recognized as a Google Developers Expert, one of the most special accomplishments in my career so far.

In 2020, I am inside Google!

What started as a talk in Google culminated into a full time role. When I look back, it all seems like a dream. It is a dream!

Thanksgiving to Family, Friends and Colleagues

I am not self-made. I got a lot of help. My parents and family members taught me humility. My maths and english teachers Rani mam and Lourdes mam instilled long lasting discipline in me. My professors at my engineering college taught me that it is very hard to be fair, yet I must imbibe fairness. My managers, leads and colleagues from all my previous jobs have made me a better person with every interaction I had.

"And lastly, I am thankful to all the talented, kind and generous people who published their work for free on the internet for people like me. These wonderful souls have no idea what their work has done to me - personally and professionally"

To each one of you, I am forever grateful!

Thanksgiving to the Giants

When I look back at my career, it is clear that my success and progress is not just mine, but of those giants on whose shoulders I stood on to see far into the future. Some of these giants have seen me through my rough times, they have consoled me, given me hope and helped me persist despite knowing that some journeys can get difficult and lonely. Twitter, in particular connected me with so many of these giants on a virtual platform, who not just responded to my tweets, but my emails, reviewed my work and also nudged me when I was treading the wrong path. They guided me with their heart and soul (mostly virtually!)

These are the giants whose work has inspired me in past few years and got me to where I am today - Steve Krug, Donald Norman, Golden Krishna, Luke Wroblewski, David Rose, Jared Spool, Alan Cooper, Bill Buxton, Steven Portigal, Erika Hall and many others. My heartfelt thanks to each one of you for inspiring me. Your work said to me, - "If I can, you can too!" Thank You.

"To all the wonderful people who touched my life, what can I give in return, I often wonder, other than continuing to do what I do, better and helping people around me do better than I can!"

This is the best time

I have already written/spoken several times about how smitten I am by User Research in the past few years. My new role at Google is a GIANT LEAP in my career towards fulfilling my dream of bringing user research and emerging markets together. In the last one month that I have been at Google, I can only say, 'the feeling is yet to sink in.'

This is the best time to be in User Research. This is the best time to work in Emerging Markets.

"This is the best time!"

Lovely Note

First, Pradeep Soundararajan, my mentor/boss/colleague/friend put up a meeting room and named it 'Pari' at Moolya's 4th office last year. As if that wasn't enough, he wrote this lovely note for me when I announced my new role to the world this morning. Thank You Pradeep, for the kind words. I am forever, grateful!
