Parenting with a Neurodivergent Lens: Top Book Picks

Parenting with a Neurodivergent Lens: Top Book Picks

Many of you reading this won't be surprised that it doesn't take much to persuade me to click "buy" when it comes to books.

My groaning bookshelves are not a deterrent - there's always space for one more!? In recent months I've come across a couple of books which I thought some of you would find particularly interesting, especially if you're child is neurodivergent (or you're wondering if they might be).??Apologies for the huge images - I'm still learning how to use LinkedIn Newsletters!

"differently wired.? A parent's guide to raising an aytypical child with confidence and hope." ?by Deborah Reber is my current read.? I'm really enjoying how she is talks?about both the challenges and joys of raising a differently wired child.? The coach in me also likes the?helpful reflective questions throughout the book and I'm seriously contemplating covering this one at a future Busy Parent Book Club.? If you have a child who might be considered as having a "spiky profile" then this may particularly resonate.

"A Different Kind of Parenting" by Eliza Fricker is a great read for?parents who would value feeling seen, especially if you feel like you're constantly battling the system.? There are lots of pictures in this one?which portray both the challenges of navigating the system and?also the importance of leaning into your insights and how your child is wired.??

"The Explosive Child:? A new approach for understanding and parenting easily frustrated, chronically inflexible children." by Ross Greene isn't a light read, but if you need some fresh ideas for how to approach your child then it can be immensely helpful.? My copy is pretty old now, but more recent revisions are available.

As well as these books one?book?I'd recommend adding to your bookshelf for any parent raising a child aged between 10 and 18 is "The Emotional Lives of Teenagers" by Lisa Damour, PhD .? This is packed with wisdom for navigating the transition and ups and downs of the tween and teen years - however your child is wired. We're going to be reading this one at the next Busy Parent Book Club starting on Sunday 30th March at 7:45pm.? If you feel like you'd benefit from a helping hand to get this book read and equip?yourself for this phase of your parenting journey then you can find out more and book your spot by following the link.

Books and resources can be so helpful, but if your head is feeling full and you're not sure where to start even the thought of more information can feel overwhelming.? If you're feeling like this then perhaps it would be more helpful to start with booking a chat to give yourself some space to think through and declutter your head.? You're very welcome to book a free initial chat to find out more.? Follow the link to my diary to find a time to suit you.If you've found any books or resources you'd recommend I'd love to hear from you!

Have a great week.

Julie??

Amazing and congrats on the launch. I'm like you in that I don't tend to send emails unless I have something to say but since the issue of my second newsletter, I've already got a title for the next two! I think because I know my focus and I'm not writing in a formal way, it feels different.
