Welcome to the Daddy Shack

The B-52’s had the Love Shack. Rodney Dangerfield and crew had Caddy Shack. And we, my friends, have the Daddy Shack. Welcome, to a place where the subject matter will range everywhere from—- well, let’s just say the subject matter will range.

As a career journalist, ok, actually an unemployed journalist, fervently looking for my next gig, this blog is the most daunting writing assignment I’ve ever faced. Seriously. I’ve laid in bed at night thinking about this. I’ve talked to friends about it over dinner. I’ve ruminated on what to say while running beside the ”Mighty Mississippi”, and while riding my bike.

So why is it such a tough topic for me to tackle? — Because the more you care about a subject, the more you care about how it turns out, you want it to be just right. So when I was asked to write a blog from a Dad’s perspective–I was honored, thrilled, and, while I passionately love writing, I have also been scared.

You see, there’s no role in my life that’s more important to me than being a father, and no people I love more than my kids.

When it’s all been said, it won’t matter what I did for a living, or how many awards I won. It won’t matter if I’ve made a lot of money or if I haven’t; and, incidentally, as a journalist, I haven’t. It won’t matter what kind of car I drove, or house I lived in. But it will matter, that I did my part in raising my kids to the very best of my ability. It will always matter that my kids know I love them today, tomorrow, and forever. THAT will matter.
