Parat: A Discussion About Long-Term Thinking and Technological Sovereignty

Parat: A Discussion About Long-Term Thinking and Technological Sovereignty

Today, I had the privilege of presenting to Parat, a Norwegian labour union, on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI). My narrative took us out of our work environments and concerns of work and labor issues to the broader scope of technology’s role in current global trends. The goal was to illustrate how these trends will affect our daily lives, both at work and at home, and to encourage long-term and comprehensive thinking in policy development.

I emphasized the importance of putting pressure on the government to secure Norway’s place in a technologically sovereign Europe. We should put in center of our discussions hw to ensure a prosperous, sustainable and secure future for the coming generations. It’s about the legacy we leave for our children and grandchildren. What we do or don’t do, collectively as nations of Europe, will determine the lives they will live.??

Nordic labor unions are known for their progressive, constructive, and broad-thinking approaches. Their role extends far beyond negotiating paychecks and pensions; they are deeply invested in the broader welfare of society. This holistic approach makes it perfectly natural for a labor union in the Nordics to organize a conference program that includes discussions on the broader role of AI and technology.

Following the presentation, I was fortunate to participate in an exciting fireside chat with Even Bolstad, Managing director of HR Norge, a progressive internationalist with a sharp intellect and a good pen.?

I give a few presentations for groups or organisations of various sectors of society, and I always find them stimulating and promising.? The Nordic labor unions’ commitment to societal welfare and their proactive approach to emerging technological challenges are commendable. I look forward to more opportunities like this, where we can continue to push boundaries, inspire thoughtful discussions, and work together towards a better future.
