Parallel Process-

Parallel Process-

As a psychotherapist I had the opportunity to work in a Behavioral health clinic for 16 years. At that clinic I treated a variety of adult clients with emotional disorders. Most of the clients were given prescriptions for antidepressants such as prozac, paxil, and zoloft. We also provided CBT sessions and the majority of clients improved dramatically in 3 - 12 months. Currently I am working at a Substance Abuse program and we provide treatment for adults who abuse anything from alcohol to heroin. Most of the clients who abused heroin are prescribed suboxone medication and attend CBT and MI focused sessions. The majority of these clients are maintaining sobriety, and report they have improved mood and self esteem. It is interesting to observe the clients in these two types of settings and identify the parallel process of change.
